How update the hosts file on a Mac

Background

If you need to view a website but the IP is not already pointing to it, then you can update your hosts file.

Doing it via the Terminal

Go to terminal.

Type sudo nano /etc/hosts and then hit return.

Enter your administrator password and then hit return.
